China Montane Forest

This exhibit is designed to represent the conifer forests of the Qionglai-Minshan mountainous region that separates the Tibetan Plateau from the Sichuan Basin. This cool foggy realm supports dense coniferous forests, with deciduous trees providing a canopy through which the conifers can protrude, with ground cover of rhododendrons and bamboo.

This ecosystem provides the habitat for a remote and exotic collection of species, most notably the golden monkey and many rare pheasants. Many of these will be showcased alongside the amphibians, reptiles and invertebrates from that area.
