We offer education sessions to groups from Early Years to degree level, from special needs to children’s clubs, on over 40 subjects.
Education sessions take place in themed
classrooms in the Conservation Education Centre. Most sessions are 55 minutes long and will include up to three live animals (unless otherwise stated). Animals include tame reptiles, small mammals and invertebrates.
We also use items such as skins, furs, tusks and stuffed specimens (many are confiscations from HM Revenue and Customs). Short film clips and audio clips are often used to support your chosen topic. Close-up cameras help to show extra detail on our smaller animals. All sessions are linked to the National Curriculum or specific syllabi.
Many sessions have downloadable topic-centred notes for teachers to help with ideas on a Zoo visit.
We're also now running a special dinosaur themed education session during DinoZoo 2, click here to find out more about our DinoZoo 2 Safari's!
More information on our education sessions can be found on the links to the left. More detailed breakdowns of the sessions can also be downloaded on those pages.
Individual sessions cost £42.
Two sessions for the same students cost £76.
Three sessions for the same students cost £113.
There is a maximum class size of 30 for students KS1-3, and 25 for KS4 and post 16 students.
Come and see the the Zoo’s facilities and book in a chat with one of the education team, once you have made a provisional booking with us. Call us on 0117 974 7369 or email education@bristolzoo.org.uk for more information.
Education sessions are available between 9.30am and 5pm weekdays throughout the year. Our sessions are very popular, especially in the summer months, so you need to book well in advance.
All pupils and teachers who attend education sessions are presented with money-off vouchers for return visits to the Zoo
