Tanzania Savannah

Situated on the expansive lower plains of the site, the Tanzania Savannah exhibit represents the ecosystem of Tarangire National Park. The largest exhibit at NWCP, it showcases some of the larger mammals and birds in a mixed species paddock with many of the enclosures surrounding watering holes, thus creating the illusion of a wild environment. ‘Invisible’ barriers enhance the open nature of the exhibit area and assist in setting the scene, combining grassland, occasional emergent trees, dry scrub and rocks into an image of an African plain.

You will arrive at the exhibit via the forest walkway down from the upper plains, or on the land train which will drop you outside the Tanzania Outlook Restaurant. From there, you have spectacular views across the exhibit, and beyond. Following a pedestrian raised walkway out over the savannah itself you can engage with the giraffe, zebras, ostriches and other animals that live in the main mixed paddock area. As you approach the ranger station, located towards the centre of the plains, you can catch a glimpse of cheetahs and African wild dogs.

A heightened experience can be had via the safari jeep ride, which travels from the ranger station through the mixed paddock to the dry river bed, beyond which reside the magnificent black rhino.

This exhibit is not scheduled to come on-line until after the park has opened.
